Activated Carbon Rotary Kiln

Key Equipment for Efficient Activated Carbon Production

Activated carbon, available as black powder, blocks, granules, or honeycomb amorphous carbon, contains 80% to 90% carbon and is widely used as a hydrophobic adsorbent. Its production involves converting carbon-rich organic materials like coal and wood into activated carbon through high-temperature pyrolysis under controlled pressure. The activated carbon rotary kiln is essential in this process, particularly during the high-temperature carbonization stage.

Activated Carbon Rotary Kiln

Developed by DMPCR with years of experience and technical expertise, the activated carbon rotary kiln guarantees reliable quality and advanced performance. The activated carbon produced possesses excellent chemical reactivity, low bulk density, and large specific surface area, making it a vital auxiliary material in industries such as steelmaking, coking, and calcium carbide manufacturing.

Structure and Components

The activated carbon rotary kiln mainly comprises a solid rotary body, feed plate, driving device, supporting device, sealing rings, and other vital components. Its design ensures stable operation and effective sealing during the calcination process.

Advantages of DMPCR Activated Carbon Rotary Kilns

The rotary kiln offers simple operation, low carbon emissions, and environmental friendliness. It is designed with a reasonable structure that ensures high output and low energy consumption. The kiln body, including the rotary cylinder, kiln head, kiln tail, sealing, and supporting devices, is engineered for durability and efficiency.

An auxiliary device is incorporated into the driving system to maintain slow rotation if power is interrupted, preventing material damage. The kiln head uses shell and cover-type sealing to guarantee airtight operation throughout the calcining process, contributing to energy savings, automation, and environmental protection.

Operating temperatures range between 950°C and 1050°C, adjustable based on the material load to meet specific product requirements. This stable and efficient technology is favored in environmental protection and renewable resource industries.

Specifications

Activated carbon rotary kilns come in various models tailored to different calcination methods. They are classified primarily as external calcining kilns or preheating calcining kilns, with an output range from 1 to 80 tons per day, meeting diverse production demands.

Working Principle

Activated carbon is first stored in a silo after pretreatment and lifted by an elevator into the preheater’s top silo. Material feeding is precisely controlled by upper and lower level meters, ensuring even distribution across the preheater chambers.

In the preheater, activated carbon is heated to about 900°C by kiln flue gases reaching 1150°C, achieving approximately 30% decomposition. The partially decomposed material is then pushed into the rotary kiln, where it undergoes sintering and decomposition into CaO and CO2.

The decomposed activated carbon passes into a cooler, where cold air lowers its temperature to around 100°C before discharge. Heat from the cooler is recovered as 600°C hot air, which mixes with fuel gas for combustion, optimizing energy use.

Waste gases generated during the process are treated by an induced draft fan before passing through a bag filter and exhaust fan, ensuring environmental compliance. Additional auxiliary equipment can be added upon client request to meet specialized requirements.

Investment Potential

Activated carbon produced by high-temperature methods is extensively used across petrochemical, power generation, chemical, food, gold recovery, and environmental protection industries. Its excellent hydrophobic adsorption capacity makes it indispensable for water purification, sewage treatment, waste gas and harmful gas purification, and decolorization processes in food and beverage production.

With rising global environmental awareness and increasing demand for clean and safe food, water, and medicines, the market for activated carbon is continuously expanding. As environmental standards become stricter and technology advances, activated carbon is poised to play a critical role in sustainable development, making investment in activated carbon rotary kiln technology a promising opportunity for long-term growth and profitability.
